What Are Magnetic Sensors and How Are They Used?

Magnetic sensors are small measuring devices that measure and detect magnetic fields through assessing changes in resonant frequency, voltage or mechanical displacement using a variety of methods. These are vastly different from other detection devices as they do not physically measure the properties of a given object like temperature, flow, strain, and pressure. Instead magnetic field sensors measure adjustments and disturbances in resulting magnetic fields and collect details regarding electrical currents, rotation, direction, angle and presence. Magnetic detectors are able to provide clear important information without direct physical contact with an object, which is essential in a multitude of situations.

Sensors are divided into 3 distinct categories based on high, medium and low ranges. Low-field versions are most commonly used in the medical field, as their low frequency is ideal for measuring the appropriate magnetic frequency changes in the human brain. Therefore, they are used in an array of medical devices and tools. Other low-field sensors that are unable to detect slowly changing fields are used more frequently in traffic stops and monitoring.

Medium-field sensors are more sensitive to the Earth’s diverse and continuously changing magnetic field. As result, these devices are best used in compass technology and navigation. They can also be used in vehicle detection and assessment. The use of a particular medium-field model is largely dependent upon its size and measurement capabilities.

High-field magnetic sensors, including a wide range of bias magnetic field sensors, are valuable in security devices that control and monitor windows and doors throughout a building because they are particularly useful in measuring the position of individual objects. Each type can be used for a variety of needs and companies like Sensor Solutions provide a wide range of products for a multitude of uses from exercise speed equipment to a variety of measurements for an array of industries including timber, oil, mining, railroad and medicine. Their services greatly improve the efficiency and safety of employees and customers throughout the economy. Finding an expert manufacturer and developer in magnetic sensors could substantially improve your business.
